Instagram Algorithm Changes Explained

Hi guys, welcome back to my channel! If you're here, it's probably because you've heard some news about Instagram recently and you're looking for my take, or just someone else's take, on what this news means. The news that I'm referring to is the fact that they are making changes to their algorithm, specifically how they rank original content. If you've not heard about that yet, then you're in for a treat because in this video, I'm gonna be talking about the exact change, what's coming to Instagram's algorithm, what it means for you, who it's going to impact, and what you should do about it. So, if that sounds of interest, then carry on watching.

Impact on Different Content Types

Now, let's talk about who's going to be impacted the most as a result of this change. The first group of people, I'm sure you've guessed it already — I'm pretty sure I've already hinted at this — is going to be people who run theme pages. Now, if you don't know what theme pages are, they are accounts which literally focus on reposting other people's content. That is what they do. Right now, some people love theme pages; some people don't. I'm someone who actually quite likes them, and one of my other accounts, Orange Collective, when we were really focusing on that account, we actually saw a lot of growth as a result of theme pages reposting our content. So, I definitely think theme pages have a place in the whole ecosystem of Instagram.

Strategies for Adapting to the Change

So, what can you do about this change to ensure that your content doesn't suddenly experience a huge drop in reach? The first thing that you should do and should be doing already is ensure that none of your content that you're uploading has any watermarks in it. As I mentioned, there's no confirmation as to whether or not this change is going to impact content that appears on other social networking platforms or whether it's just impacting content which has already been shared on your Instagram platform. But regardless of that, you want to ensure that your content does not have a watermark because Instagram doesn't like it.
