In today's article, I'm gonna be showing you guys eight ways you can make money as a teenager. One of those methods being how I actually made four thousand dollars within a year at the age of 16. So if you want to know what that method is, make sure you watch all the way to the end.
Look, I know exactly what it's like to be a teenager. I mean, I'm not that far off, so I know exactly what teens want - like the latest trainers, the latest phones, laptops, computers, all of that stuff. Even money to redecorate my room - I wanted all of that. If you're under the age of 18, let's be honest, most of you are probably still living with your parents, so you don't have any bills, you don't have any big payments that are going to be coming out of your account like that - your money is not going towards food or rent. So you actually have the privilege of enjoying that money to the fullest. But in order to do that, you actually have to make money in the first place.
Now, this very first method right here is something that I actually still do to this day, which is freelancing. This is basically just where you exchange your skills for money. So you can sign up for Fiverr or Upwork. I'm sure there's a whole bunch of other ones, but right now I'm only using Fiverr personally. And if I'd known about this as a teen, I promise you I'd be making thousands every single month off it by now. It's perfect for beginners and you can actually get paid doing something that you enjoy. So what you want to do is determine three to five skills that you can basically monetize. For example, say if you've got great English, you could go into copywriting. If you've got a good voice, you could go into voice acting. If you're an artist, you could get into tattoo designs and logos. That's how I started out. That was my first ever gig on Fiverr. And the great thing about Fiverr is that you can actually price your services very low at the start, so you basically be learning while you earn.
But yeah, let's jump into the next method, which is flipping freebies. For this next method, you're going to want to head to places like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or if you're from the UK, places like Shpock or Gumtree. What you'll find on there is a section where people are basically just giving away free stuff. Typically, the people that are giving away electronics and furniture and stuff like that simply can't be bothered to actually put it up for sale on the internet. They don't want to do the whole postage process, they might be moving home, so they just want to vlog whatever it is as soon as possible. You'll typically find stuff like TVs, sofas, and stuff like that.
Now, method number three is reselling clothes. Now this method holds a very special placement apart because, like I said, this is a method that made me four thousand dollars within a year at the age of 16, and it's also something that I've still got up and running right now. It all started when I was about 14 where I basically created accounts on eBay, Depop, and Spock at the time, and I basically just put up all of my old clothes that I didn't want anymore and I sold them. This is how I built up my reviews at the time and how I made the money to actually kickstart this whole method.
Number four is buy, sell, and repair phones. Headphones is actually very quick and easy if you're good at following instructions and have a steady hand. I personally had no experience with anything to do with opening up phones. I didn't know how to even take out a battery on an iPhone, for example, but within my first attempt, I managed to successfully repair screens and resell them for profit. So I know for a fact that this method works.
Number five is local services. Now pet sitting, house sitting, setting up IKEA furniture, a few of many services that people will need in your area and these are services that people will be willing to pay good money for. You're probably sitting there thinking, why would they hire me instead of a professional? And the reason being is that you'll be pricing yourself significantly lower than the professionals, and that's exactly why it's going to be very easy for you to land your first job. Again, this is another side hustle that I actually tried at a very young age, I'd say it was around 15 when I signed up for the Nextdoor app.
Now, this next method is something that I'm obviously doing right now, which is YouTube. YouTube is an amazing way to make money and what you love or what you have a lot of knowledge in. All you need is an iPhone or a device that you can record yourself with. Like, imagine getting paid from basically just turning on a camera.
Podcasting is something I actually wish I was introduced to as a teen. You basically just pick topics that you find interesting or have a passion for and you just record yourself talking about them. It's literally that simple.
Affiliate marketing is basically where you get paid to refer people through your link. You've probably already done it without realizing, but every time you referred someone to Uber Eats or Delivery, whatever it is, they've signed up for your link, and you've ended up getting a discount or like a $15 coupon. Congratulations, you're an affiliate marketer.
